Meme: Passion Quilt

This post is part of a teaching meme, for which I was asked to contribute . For more information check out  The Fearless Blog: Seeking Courage and Inspiration

Teaching is my passion.

I love the enthusiasm of students who want to learn.

I chair Lander University’s American Democracy Project, a local chapter of a national effort to motivate students to become more involved in their communities.  Pictured above a student and I exhibit Lander’s winning T-shirt slogan entry in a competition sponsored by the NY Times and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

The Lander University student newspaper editor and I critique the latest issue of the Forum, which I’ve advised for more than 15 years. Most Forum staff members have gone on to work in the mass communications field; many have become editors. I love emails from student saying they got another promotion. We’re a small university, and we get to know each other.  Many students keep in touch.

I volunteer as newspaper advisor at one of our local middle school. This is the first year their newspaper was published online.

I want my students to be ethical, accurate, balanced and fair. I tell them the best complement I can give them as newspaper staffers is that they are careful reporters.

Words: mixed up meanings

English has got to be one of the toughest languages to learn. Even our exceptions …

  1. Excellent! Looks like a great group of kids 🙂

  2. Working with enthusiastic students who love to learn is most definitely a treat!

Your meme exemplifies the many benefits of being a teacher. Not only do our students gain knowledge from us, but we as teachers gain so much for them as well. Our profession provides us with the opportunities to meet outstanding individuals, share our experiences with them and perhaps leave a lasting positive impression for them to model. Your involvement and passion for your work shows in every photo and in every word in your post. I feel fortunate to have “cyber” met you and hope that with this meme our “connected message” will travel the world. Thank you.

  3. Thank you very much. I feel the fortunate for having met you as well. I look forward to future “cyber” visits. BTW, I love your blog.

  4. This is so inspiring I admire your work. Remember I told you about wanting to put up some personality development school or English training course for people out here to at least be able to express their thoughts? I think I can’t do it with all the moving I have to do. But I wish I can someday but now would be the best time really. If you are interested maybe you can still look it up. I need a mentor maybe you can be mine help me improve my English 🙂 Honestly, I think I write like Yoda, poor construction.

  5. GREAT pictures! I love the shot of the kids.
