VELUX® Group USA Opens State-of-the-Art Distribution Center
Renovated Greenwood, South Carolina, facility uses more than 150 skylights to create bright and airy commercial and office space
FORT MILL, S.C., Dec. 7, 2023 – VELUX Group USA has opened the doors to its new, advanced distribution center in the redeveloped Fujifilm North American Campus in Greenwood. With an expansive floor plan and proximity to major highways, the distribution center represents a significant expansion for the company, which in 2020 announced its intention to invest more than $26 million in Greenwood County.
The new facility replaces the company’s 30-year-old Greenwood distribution center. Spanning several hundred acres and featuring multiple buildings within, including existing distribution centers, the former Fujifilm site enables VELUX to house logistics, freight, customer support, digital systems, operations support, global IT support and skylight blind assembly in one location.
The space renovation included the addition of more than 150 architecturally striking VELUX Dynamic Dome commercial skylights, which harvest early morning and late afternoon daylight, allowing the building’s lights to remain off for nearly an extra hour each day. VELUX Modular Skylights and VELUX Sun Tunnel® skylights are soon to be installed in the office area.
“We have completely transformed a dated property into a state-of-the-art distribution facility and vibrant office, thanks in part to the addition of VELUX skylights that make daylight and fresh air a key component of the space,” said Stephan Moyon, president VELUX America LLC – VELUX Canada. “This renovated space allows our teams to work more closely together in an environment that reflects the benefits our products bring to residences and commercial spaces across the world.”
The building was also updated to include more than 20 new dock doors and a computer-operated loading dock automation system. Modern racking designs in the warehouse provide expanded space with room for growth.
Renovated office space in the distribution center totals more than 33,000 square feet with multiple conference rooms. VELUX sales and marketing teams have taken up operations in the facility, with customer service expected to move in the first quarter of 2024. A separate structure behind the building will be used for product installation training and classes, designed so that customers can visit and experience VELUX skylights firsthand.
Located on Puckett Ferry Road in Greenwood, the new distribution center is close to highways 72 and 25 and Interstate 26, a mile from where VELUX manufactures commercial skylights, and approximately 3 miles from the company’s main campus. VELUX recently began operating two new Freightliner® eCascadia® electric semi trucks for daily operations at its Greenwood facilities to reduce operational emissions by 100% as part of its broader sustainability strategy, offsetting 50,000–60,000 miles of gas consumption annually.
The previous VELUX distribution center location is being modified for additional skylight manufacturing as the company increases production following a year of double-digit growth. With aggressive growth plans in place in the coming years, VELUX expects its footprint in Greenwood to expand.
“We are delighted to witness the growth of VELUX Group USA in Greenwood County as they thoughtfully transform a building at the former Fujifilm campus to serve their warehousing needs,” said Chuck Moates, Greenwood County Council Chairman. “As a global pioneer in skylights, VELUX had the flexibility to select any location for their distribution center, making their choice to invest in our community a testament to their unwavering commitment to Greenwood County and highlighting the strength of our local workforce. We look forward to watching their continued success.”
A community open house event will be scheduled in spring 2024 so that the residents of Greenwood can tour the space and learn more about VELUX Group USA, its products and the investments the company is making in the area.
“We appreciate the steadfast support that the people, businesses and local officials of Greenwood have shown us over the years,” Moyon said. “This is an exciting time in the history of VELUX, and we look forward to continuing our expansion and investment in the Greenwood area.”
