WASHINGTON, Aug. 8, 2016 – USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) Administrator Elanor Starmer will visit Greenwood’s Uptown Market Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at 10 a.m. ET to celebrate the 17th Annual National Farmers Market Week. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack proclaimed Aug. 7 to Aug. 13, 2016, National Farmers Market Week.
Administrator Starmer will be joined by Greenwood Mayor Welborn Adams and local officials to recognize the great benefits farmers markets bring to local communities, and to highlight USDA support for the local food sector in South Carolina and across the country.
Supporting farmers markets is a part of the USDA’s Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food (KYF2) Initiative, which coordinates the Department’s work to develop strong local and regional food systems. More information on how USDA investments are connecting producers with consumers and expanding rural economic opportunities is available in Chapter IV of USDA Results on Medium.
