Greenwood Looking Forward to Hosting Masters Patrons

Ask any hotelier or restaurateur in Greenwood about “Masters Week”, and they will quickly respond with excitement that their businesses truly benefit from the many visitors who frequent the area as they head towards Augusta, GA for the world-renowned PGA golf tournament at beautiful Augusta National Golf Club.

As in years past, Masters patrons will arrive in Greenwood during the first part of April in anticipation of attending the golf tournament but also enjoying the community’s small town charm and hospitality.

Greenwood Mayor Welborn Adams, said, “We are always excited in the City of Greenwood for Masters week. We welcome our Masters guests and look forward to showing them the many fine restaurants and recreational opportunities here. The economic impact of the hotels filled to capacity benefits the City with hospitality and accommodations tax revenues. I wish the Masters happened more than once a year, but with the azaleas blooming it is a special time.”

The economic impact of the week is projected to bring in at least $1million to the area .

“Anytime there is an event that welcomes visitors to our area to dine, shop, and stay, Greenwood’s citizens benefit from those visits in sales tax relief as well as additional tax revenue for the government to make more improvements to our community,” said Kelly McWhorter, director of the Greenwood Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau. “The Masters is always very good for our local economy. Hotels will be at capacity and our restaurants will be busy as well. In addition to the award winning festivals Greenwood offers, we look for this week, again, to be one of the most prosperous weeks of the year for the hospitality industry.”

Greenwood’s businesses have embraced the event by offering discounted specials with golf, shopping, and other services. The visitors’ bureau is happy to promote those specials along with upcoming events on their website, www.visitgreenwoodsc.com, and also throughout the hotels. Patrons will see additional information in hotels and restaurants on the newly revamped golf website, www.golfgreenwoodsc.com, and will also have the chance to enter for golf prizes at numerous hotels in the area.

The Greenwood Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau is an economic development organization that improves the economy of Greenwood County and the region by increasing the number of overnight visitors to the area and driving higher average daily spending of all travel parties.

The organization offers numerous services to meeting and event planners, including complimentary visitor packets, assistance with site selection as well as fulfilling requests for room rates for meetings, conferences, and sporting events.
