Development/Induction
Virginia Risinger has been named as the new Director of Professional
Development/Induction. Risinger has been employed with Greenwood School District 50 for 22 years. In June, Risinger was selected as the Interim Director of Evaluation. Prior to her selection as Interim Director, Risinger served as a science teacher for several years, and became the district science instructional coach in 2013. Risinger also previously taught at the collegiate level at Lander University and Erskine College

“I am excited to serve in a new role with District 50,” Mrs. Risinger said. “I look forward to leading all of our employees to positive growth by encouraging a variety of professional development activities in our district and schools. I have enjoyed building positive relationships with our induction teachers and look forward to strengthening our district’s induction program.”

Risinger has received numerous awards during her career including: Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (state finalist), Golden Apple teacher finalist, Lowe’s Grant award, Donors Choose Grant recipient, Success in Middle School Science Grant, Clemson University Grant for STEM, SC2 Grant recipient, Unsung Heroes Grant Award, and Rotary Club Teacher of the Year. She was also named Northside’s Teacher of the Year in 2001.

Risinger received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Secondary Education from Lander University. She has a Master of Education Degree from Clemson University in Natural Science, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University.
