Ray Oliver Manley Obituary

Ray Oliver Manley, 81, husband of Polly Rushton Manley, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at his home.

Born February 15, 1943, in Abbeville, SC, he was the only son of the late Lewis and Sarah Latham Manley. He graduated from Greenwood High School and Piedmont Technical College and attended Lander University. After serving in the Navy, he dedicated his career to law enforcement, with over sixty years working between the City of Greenwood and Lander University. “He’s best in athletics, he’s a friend to all too, his manhood is unquestionable, great things in life he’ll do,” foretold his High School annual senior statement. Ray personified this throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with those he loved, gardening, and a good Western or war movie.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years are a daughter, Kelley Raye Manley of Cheyenne, WY; a sister, Bertha Manley of Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Helen Satterfield and Margaret Bowie.

No services are planned at this time.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greenwood, P.O. Box 49776 Greenwood, SC 29649.
