Joann Virginia Dove Gray, 91, of Greenwood, South Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with an array of health issues.

Joann was born on October 11, 1932, in Anderson, SC, and was the eldest of 5 daughters to proud parents, Jack and Ruby Dove. After graduating from Girls High School in Anderson she attended Anderson College. She married the love of her life Coy J. Gray in 1952 who preceded her in death after nearly 69 years of marriage. They were active, long time members of Greenwood First Baptist Church and devoted members of the Carpenter Sunday School class. Joann was most proud of having The Joann Gray Circle named in her honor.

Joann’s talents were many. She was a talented pianist, master gardener, community volunteer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved to entertain at her home. She loved to collect local crafts, antiques, heirloom plants, dolls, doves, hearts, and angels.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jasper “Jack” Dove and Ruby Voyles Dove, husband Coy Jefferson Gray, sister Patsy Ellis, and niece Beatrice Jacqueline Crews. She is survived by a daughter Coyann Gray Lee (Chuck) of Clemson, SC, a granddaughter Gray Lee Smith (Thomas) of Charlotte, NC, sisters Jackie Puckett, Myrna Franklin (Ben), Nancy Crews (Art), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens at 3 pm on Monday, January 22, 2024. 

Condolences may be sent to the family at Blyth Funeral Home. If desired, memorials may be made to Greenwood First Baptist Church or Hospice of the Piedmont.
