Homicide

On May 7th at approximately 0134 hrs the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a possible motor vehicle accident in the area of Avid Rd / Sawgrass Place.  Once on scene a male victim was located outside of his vehicle with significant injuries and was transported to the hospital by EMS. The victim was unable to recover from his injuries and died at Self Regional Medical Center early this morning .  The other vehicle involved in the collision was no longer at the scene when Deputies arrived.  Through our investigation it was determined that the collision was an intentional act and the subject was identified as William Gray Ackerman Jr of Greenwood, SC.  Ackerman was located at a residence near the  scene and was arrested and charged with Murder.  The identity of the victim will be released by the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office at the appropriate time.
