Greenwood School District 50 Superintendent Announces Plans to Retire at the End of 2018-2019 School Year
Greenwood School District 50 Superintendent Dr. Darrell Johnson has announced plans to retire.
Dr. Johnson, who has served as Superintendent for the past 12 years, announced his plans at District 50’s Board of Trustees meeting on December 17th.
Johnson’s career in education spans nearly 32 years, having worked previously in Clover and Rock Hill School District as an assistant superintendent, director, principal, teacher, and school custodian.
“It has been a blessing working in Greenwood School District 50,” Dr. Johnson stated. “I am so appreciative of the Board of Trustees for taking a chance on a first-time Superintendent. I appreciate the support of our students, teachers, administrators, and community working together to create so many wonderful memories.”
During his career in District 50, the district’s accomplishments include:
o Completion of $200 million building program which produced: o Three new elementary schools
o One new middle school
o State-of-the-art high school gymnasium
o Additions and expansions at all existing district facilities

o Arts, Communication, & Theatre School (ACTS)
o Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics School (STEMS) o Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
o Greenwood School of Inquiry (GSI)
o Montessori
o Academic Arts Academy (A3)
o Aerospace Engineering Curriculum
o Accelerate Engineering Program
o Implementation of a 1:1 Technology Initiative
o Part of Steering Team that unveiled the Greenwood Promise, a $5 million public-
private venture aimed at a tuition-free path to a college education
o Named the Career/Technology Division’s State Superintendent of the Year in
2017
