Greenwood School District 50 Approves Construction of GHS Field House


Greenwood, SC – Greenwood School District 50 is excited to announce the approval of a new construction project aimed at enhancing athletic facilities at Greenwood High School (GHS). The School Board has given the green light for the construction of a state-of-the-art Field House, a project that underscores the district’s commitment to providing top-tier facilities for its students and the community.
The new Field House will serve as a multipurpose facility designed to support a wide range of athletic programs at GHS. It will include modern locker rooms, training rooms, offices for coaching staff, and meeting spaces for teams. Additionally, the facility will feature a weight room and a conference room for various athletic and academic activities.
Key Features of the $9.9 million state-of-the-art facility:

“We are thrilled to move forward with the construction of the GHS Field House,” said Mrs. Danielle Fields, District 50 Board Chairwoman. “This facility represents a significant investment in our students and community, providing a much-needed space for our athletic programs to thrive. The district worked closely with the architects and Chairman of the Building/Facilities committee, Mr. Ken Cobb, to ensure that this project would not leave the district in an unstable financial position.”

The approval of the Field House project follows a comprehensive planning and review process that began in October 2023 and included input from district and school administrators, coaches, architects and school board members. The project is set to begin construction in the summer of 2024, with an anticipated completion date in the fall of 2025.
