GREENWOOD POLICE DETECTIVES MAKE ARREST IN JUNE MURDER

Greenwood, SC – One man is in custody following an investigation into an early morning shooting on June 19th that claimed the life of 42-year-old Darris Brooks.

Officers received a call at approximately 3 AM on June 19thstating that a man was laying in front of a residence, unresponsive. When patrol arrived at the location, they found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. First responders tried to get the victim to the hospital, but he died from his injuries. At the point, detectives were called and began a homicide investigation.

Even though there was very little evidence at the scene, detectives began working intently to find out who was responsible for the victim’s death. Chief Chaudoin stated, “Our detectives always work extremely hard for the citizens, and we are glad to be able to give Mr. Brooks’ family a little closure.” This case was solved largely through the assistance provided to our detectives by individual who were willing to come forward with what they knew about the case.

Detectives were able to take the suspect, 23-year-old Quintavious Devonta Johnson, into custody without incident this afternoon (8/4/22). Johnson will be given an arraignment on Friday. While an arrest has been made, the investigation is ongoing. The Greenwood Police Department would like to thank the men and women of the Greenwood Fire Department, Greenwood County EMS, Greenwood County Coroner’s Office, and Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this investigation.
