Greenwood Covid-19 Report

Covid Report

Greenwood Covid-19 Release 5 a.m. December 11: As of yesterday’s report, Greenwood County had 21 additional confirmed cases in the county for a total of 3,206 cases confirmed since 21 March. Remember this is only those which have been confirmed and is for those who were tested a minimum of two days ago. This means there are others who have been tested and are in quarantine awaiting results. Additionally, an individual can be asymptomatic, (contagious but shows no symptoms), and may choose not to be tested.

The first 2,841 cases in Greenwood County were reported over 15 days ago, so there are 2,841 individuals who should have recovered from the virus. Additionally, Greenwood County has had 78 confirmed deaths due to the virus. This brings Greenwood County’s remaining estimated total of active confirmed cases to 287. DHEC does not track recovered individuals by county, so this number is an estimate based on the following: Most individuals recover from the virus within this time frame.

From 26 November until 9 December (2 weeks), Greenwood has had 356 confirmed cases out of a population of 70,811. This equates to an incident rate of 502.7 per 100,000 individuals which is rated as high by SCDHEC. (Low = 50 or less; Medium = 51 – 200; High = 201 or more)

SCDHEC reported an additional 1,883 new confirmed cases in the state for a total of 225,053.  Also, they reported 12 new confirmed deaths in the state for a total of 4,291. Please click this link to see the deaths by county.  For additional information on underlying conditions or other information in this section, please call DHEC at 1-855- 472- 3432. SCDHEC has begun providing a number of probable cases and deaths. I will only be providing the confirmed numbers. Once a probable case or death is confirmed, they will add it to their confirmed total and I will report it.

SCDHEC reported 9,202 of 11,164 inpatient beds are in use for an 82.4% usage rate statewide. Of the 9,202 beds in use, 1,232 are occupied by patients who either have tested positive or are under investigation for COVID-19. This is 13.4% of the beds in use.

As of 9 December, Greenwood County has 196 of 206 hospital beds in use which is 95.1% utilization rate. As of 8 December, Self Regional reported 37 COVID-19 patients with 7 in ICU. Of these, 5 patients are on ventilation.

SCDHEC has created a dashboard which tracks the COVID-19 cases in K-12 schools within SC. Please click this link to see the numbers of reported cases by school.

SCDHEC is finding an increased rate of individuals who do not have symptoms and don’t know they are infectious as they have expanded testing.  This increases the risk of spreading the virus. Over the past couple of weeks, Greenwood County has seen the number of cases of COVID-19 increase.  It is important we slow the spread of the virus by keeping 6 feet apart, washing our hands, avoiding large gatherings, remaining home when sick and wearing face coverings when in public facilities which do not allow for social distancing.
