Greenwood asks: who will replace K-mart?
As you know Kmart is closing in Greenwood, SC, but that is not due to Greenwood’s shopping habits. According to CNN/Money, the closing is part of a massive nationwide effort by Sears Holding Corp to stem a nearly $7 billion loss in revenue in recent years. More than 200 K-mart stores have already closed.
But on the minds of many Greenwoodians is: What’s Next?
The Greenwood Plaza has several vacant spaces, including those previously held by Shoney’s, Blockbuster, The Ranch House, and Ruby Tuesdays.
Greenwood Calendar spent a few minutes today with Trip Harris Leasing Associate for the Greenwood Plaza, and we asked the questions you are asking:
How do you feel about the recent closings in the Greenwood Plaza, including Shoney’s, Ruby Tuesday’s, and now K-mart?
While we are sad to see them go, we are excited about the opportunity to come. This will give us a chance to revitalize the center and bring positive energy to the area.
How would you respond to rumors that Kmart will remain unoccupied because the lease will continue to be paid? (This has happened at other shopping centers and is on the minds of our readers)
While this is a possibility, we have generated interest from multiple national retailers and we feel that we can overcome any potential obstacles.
Are there any new businesses looking to settle in the shopping center?
Yes, there has been lots of activity and interest in the shopping center. At this time, I am unable to share specific users.
Whenever a survey is done asking residents who they would like to see come to Greenwood, many on Greenwood Calendar rank Olive Garden and Target at the top of that list. Do you see them as possible tenants?
Yes, we would love to see both Target and Olive Garden in Greenwood and we look forward to pursuing their interest.
Is there anything else you would like to add to the people of Greenwood and surrounding areas.
We appreciate your patience and look forward to revitalizing Greenwood Plaza to meet the needs of the community.
As always, we’re here for you at Greenwood Calendar providing answers to the questions that matter to you.

We would love to have a Catherine’s plus size store here in greenwood
On an unrelated note a Jack in The Box would be nice
We would love to see a SAM’S CLUB !!!!!!!!!!
Would be awesome to try and get a Sam’s Club or a Home Depot in there !!
I think that plaza has an old run-down feel. It needs a major overhaul to be attractive to the current shops we all go out of town for.
