District 50 Live Shooter Drill

On Tuesday, July 12th, Greenwood School District 50 will conduct a mock active shooter and reunification drill at Emerald High School and Westside Baptist Church. The purpose of the drill is to allow the school district to practice emergency and reunification procedures that will be utilized in the event of a crisis incident.

“This type of endeavor requires a total team effort,” Greenwood School District 50 Safety Manager Natalie Talbert stated. “We are collaborating with many different local and state organizations in order to test our emergency and reunification processes and procedures. We appreciate the cooperation of everyone taking part in the drill as we continue to work together to keep our students and staff safe.”

In anticipation of the July 12th drill, District 50 is encouraging participants and the community to be aware of the following:

  • This is only a training exercise and there is no cause for alarm.

  • Gunshots may be heard near Emerald High School during the morning hours as part of the exercise.

  • No students will be participating in the drill.

  • No visitors will be allowed on campus

  • The drill will involve numerous police and emergency vehicles.

  • A small portion of Bypass 225 in front of Emerald High School and Westside Baptist Church may be inaccessible during the drill (8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.).

“In the event of a real scenario, we realize that it will take cooperation of all major stakeholders and our entire community,” Talbert said. “Our number one priority is to make sure our students and staff are safe and everyone is reunited with their families and loved ones in a safe and orderly manner. This drill is just one part of our training.”
