Breaking: Greenwood Mayor found not guilty of DUI

Greenwood Mayor Welborn Adams has been found not guilty of DUI, according to the Clerk of Court.

“I want to thanks the people of Greenwood for their patience and support,” said Adams immediately following today’s hearing.

The magistrate court trial started today at 9:30 a.m. and ended at 1:20 p.m. According to the Index Journal, the jury deliberated for five minutes.

Adams, was arrested in Sept. 2015 at a safety checkpoint. He said he was headed home from his wife’s 40th birthday party at the Greenwood Federal Building when he came to the checkpoint set up nearly adjacent to his house. His blood-alcohol content was reported to be 0.09 percent.
