Banks Named Greenwood County Public Information Officer

Greenwood, SC – Greenwood County is pleased to announce the hiring of Abby Banks as the county’s Public Information Officer (PIO). Banks replaces Jamie Dowtin who stepped down in early November.
In her role, Banks will be responsible for developing and managing the county’s communications and public relations. Banks will also serve as Greenwood County’s point of contact for all media outlets.
“County Council understands the importance of communicating and engaging with the residents of Greenwood County and the many other stakeholders who are connected to us,” Chuck Moates, Greenwood County Council chairman, said. “Having Abby join our staff will help our County Council and County officials connect and engage more with the communities that we serve and help us to better communicate all of the County’s initiatives and services.”
Banks spent five seasons serving as a Media Relations Assistant for the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL before moving into mortgage servicing where she spent the last 20 years in leadership positions building a national network of contractors and vendors while maintaining organizational compliance and establishing uniformed company policies.
“We are excited to have Abby join Greenwood County as our PIO,” Toby Chappell, County Manager, said. “She brings a strong background in both business and communications to our team along with a passion to serve the people of Greenwood County. She will be an enormous asset in improving the County’s internal and external communications along with enhancing our overall public relations and strengthening our emergency management communications.”
A 2001 graduate of Clemson University, Banks graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She is an ambassador for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and Shriners Children’s, former host of Wheel Stories Podcast, and author. Banks currently serves as the board chairperson for Carolina Health Centers.
