Obituary: Kathryn “’Kitty” Free Crosby
Kathryn “’Kitty” Free Crosby, 92, resident of Sheffield Road, widow of William Estes Crosby, Sr., passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at NHC of Greenwood.
Born September 22, 1931, in Sumter, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Allen and Sophie Vogel Free. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Winthrop University. She loved playing Bridge, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and The Soup Kitchen.
A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Circle Z, and the John Knox Sunday School Class. She was a Deacan and Elder and received the Honorary Life Membership Award in 2001.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn C. May (David) of Greenwood and Elizabeth C. Tinkler (Paul) of Charleston; three sons, William E. Crosby, Jr. (Tess), John F. Crosby, and Daniel C. Crosby all of Greenwood; ten grandchildren, Kathryn LaForge (James), Mary Tinkler (Tad Woovis), William Tinkler (Kristen), Tripp Crosby (Taylor), Brice Crosby, Paul Crosby, Billy Augustine (Abby), Beverly Augustine, Sophie Moats (D.J.), and Daniel Crosby, Jr.; and seven Great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth May.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, January 18, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Kyle Hite officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 Thursday morning.
