Texting and Driving in Greenwood.  Most people hate it when others do it, but many do it themselves. How many of you were in an accident or near accident because you or the other driver were distracted by texting and driving?

Greenwood passed a law banning texting while driving in October 2012.  The fine is $100. Drivers can still talk on the phone while driving, and they can send messages when they are stopped.  See SC Law

Over 8 people are killed and 1,161 are injured daily in incidents reported as distraction-affected crashes in the United States.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in 2015, there were 3,477 people killed and an estimated additional 391,000 people injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers.

At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010.

In 2015, the National Occupant Protection Use Survey reported that handheld cell phone use continued to be highest among 16-24 year old drivers.  SEE MORE

A 2010 experiment with Car and Driver magazine editor Eddie Alterman, which took place at a deserted air strip, showed that texting while driving had a worse impact on safety than driving while intoxicated SEE MORE

There is no texting while driving federal law.
