Greenwood, SC (Friday October 2nd 2015 @2:30pm) After a Five month Investigation into the missing funds at the Greenwood County Clerk of Courts Office, The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office has obtained warrants on eight individuals and charged each of them with Financial Identity Fraud.
During this investigation, Investigators processed approximately 10,000 documents and determined 523 transactions were fraudulent. “Cases such as this one are very time consuming but are often solved because of the paper trail”, said Sheriff Tony Davis. This investigation has required the full attention of one investigator’s time since it was reported on April 7th 2015. Our Investigation has cleared all county employees. We appreciate the cooperation of the Clerk’s Office and the Treasure’s Office staff during this investigation.
This was a long, time-consuming investigation, but it is near completion. 7 subjects below were arrested today and they are being housed at the Greenwood County Detention Center awaiting bond. Their bond hearings are expected to take place today at 3pm in the Detention Center courtroom. The eighth subject is wanted and is encouraged to turn himself in to authorities.
