Greenwood Performing Arts Outreach

Tickets are still available for teachers and school districts interested in having their students attend the final two Outreach performances presented by Greenwood Performing Arts.

“Fly Guy and Other Stories” for children in grades 5k- through-4 is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4, with performances at 9:30 a.m. and noon at Lander University. The production is a new musical revue by Theatre Works USA and is based on several favorite children’s books.

Sponsors of the performance are Barbara and Jack Parham, of Greenwood.

On Thursday, March 19, “Janet’s Planet,” sponsored by Ascend Performance Materials in Greenwood, will introduce students to the wonders of the galaxy, focusing on science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

“Tour Through Our Solar System,” for children in grades 5k- through-5, is the theme of the morning show at 9:30. The noon production will be “Exploring Microgravity,” for children in grades 3- through-8. “Janet’s Planet” is a popular television show seen on more than 144 public television stations across the country.

All three Outreach performances will be held at Lander University’s Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. The Greenwood County Community Foundation has provided a grant to pay for round-trip bus transportation for students from Greenwood public schools to attend both “Janet’s Planet” performances.

Teachers and school administrators who want more information about the productions or to purchase tickets, can contact Outreach coordinator Jackie Counts at 864-227-8744.
