Lifelong Learning Network begins 2015 with a variety of courses
The Lakelands Lifelong Learning Network (LLLN) in Greenwood is offering a wide-ranging list of courses for its winter session, beginning in January.
There are 30 courses being offered and the categories include fitness; hobbies and interests; health and safety; nurturing mind, body and spirit; history and government; religion; and technology.
Michael Douglas, president of LLLN’s board of directors, said the curriculum committee did an outstanding job of scheduling courses and recruiting nearly two dozen facilitators who have excellent teaching backgrounds and experience.
Classes will begin on Jan. 15 with the first in a Silver Sneakers™ fitness series at Anytime Fitness in Greenwood. Other January classes include a tutorial on using an Apple iPhone and iPad; The Mission: The Existence of God; power walking; Tai Chi and yoga; genetics disorders and counseling; the U.S. and state Constitutions; herbs and health; palliative care and hospice; and essential oils. Classes on other topics will also be held in February and March.
The Lakelands Lifelong Learning Network is co-sponsored by Lander University, Piedmont Technical College and Wesley Commons. Douglas said it is a not for profit, member driven and member managed program for adults interested in intellectual challenges, fun and an opportunity to interact with other lifelong learners.
The membership fee is $30 a year and entitles members to enroll in an unlimited number of courses. Classes are free, but in rare cases, participants are expected to pay for materials.
