20 Groundhog Day Prognosticators
2/2/22 is Groundhog Day.
Since February 2, 1887, when a groundhog (also known as woodchuck and whistlepig) was used to predict the weather, at least 20 additional animals have become unwitting meteorologists. How accurate are these predictions? Well according to LiveScience.com, “Data from the Stormfax Almanac’s data shows that Punxsutawney Phil’s six-week prognostications have been correct about 39% of the time.”
I thought my dog, Patch, would do at least as well. This hypothesis is based on the scientific principal that he really, really, wants warmer weather. You can find Patch’s prediction at the end of this list.
Patch Perhaps its because of the fact that my dog, Patch, is missing one eye, or maybe it’s because he really hates (loathes)the cold weather, whatever the reason, Patch did not see his shadow this year. Therefore, Patch predicts an early spring for 2022.
