Lander Habitat for Humanity To Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony<\/h2>\n

The new Lander University chapter of Habitat for Humanity invites the public to attend a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Feb 25, at 11:30 a.m., to mark the beginning of work on its first house.<\/p>\n

The ceremony will be held at the construction site, next to Lander\u2019s Lide Apartments on Willson Street, across from the Finis Horne Arena. Speakers will include Lander President Rich Cosentino, Greenwood Mayor Welborn Adams and Chad Charles, executive director of the Greenwood chapter of Habitat for Humanity.<\/p>\n

April 22 is the anticipated completion date for the \u201cdrying in\u201d of the house. Work on the interior will continue, with participation by the family that will take ownership, after the house is moved to Kirksey Forest, off Marshall Road.<\/p>\n

It will take 1,000 volunteers if all of the two-hour time slots are filled for the eight-week construction project. Anyone 16 or over can participate, including faculty, staff, students and community members.<\/p>\n
