Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman attempting to introduce contraband into Greenwood County Detention Center during visitation.

On 01/29/2019 the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman attempting to introduce contraband into Greenwood County Detention Center during visitation.

Kathleen Barbett Walters, 41 of Waterloo, SC was reportedly attempting to introduce tobacco, narcotics and other contraband, according to GCDC.

According to an arrest report, 41-year-old Kathleen Barbett Walterswas in at GCDC to see an inmate at the Facility on Tuesday when a GCDC Personnel thwarted the attempt using facility failsafe’s.

The report says that detention center personnel searched Walters and recovered the following contraband:  a brown leafy substance believed to be tobacco, several bars of Xanax medication and matches contained in plastic drinking straws. Detention Officers also recovered a pair of cutting pliers from Walters a according to the report.

Walters is facing charges of furnishing or possessing contraband in county, municipal, or multijurisdictional jail, prison camp, work camp, or overnight lockup facility.

A person violating this section is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be punished by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars nor more than ten thousand dollars or imprisonment for not less than one year nor more than ten years, or both.

Greenwood County Sheriff Dennis Kelly said his Detention Officers and Investigator did an excellent job at keeping the contraband out of our Detention Center. Sheriff Kelly warned “If you attempt to introduce contraband into our facility, you will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law”.
