Constitution Day and First Amendment Abuses
September 10, 2008
September 17 has been designated as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day in the United States to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787.
In honor of Constitution day, I want to share with you my concerns about recent abuses to the First Amendment to the Constitution.
First let me pay my respects to the US founding fathers for securing for me the freedom of speech to be able to share my opinions with you.
This is a great article Robert.
It needs to be read by every Editor in Chief and News Director in America.
This is an extraordinary article, Rob. Well done!
This is a really interesting article. It puts things in a different perspective. People never realize how only a few Big Businesses own the entire media, which automatically decreases our free speech. It shows how the media really needs to change. Nice Job
This blog is so true! The media long forgotten the purpose to inform the public. Now, it’s all about making money off of other people’s tragedies. Would an article about how an organization saved 1,000 animals in the last year be published over an article about a newly discovered serial killer? Not likely…there’s simply more money to be had in the more shocking, eye-catching stories.
It’s sad, too, that the media is virtually our only means of finding out about the world. We hear what they want us to hear and learn what they want us to learn. Our opinions and our knowledge are pretty much in the hands of media organizations, and I’m not so sure I trust them with it.
I agree that the media has lost it’s touch with giving the public unbias accurate information. That should be it’s main priority. I also agree that media litercy needs to be taught in schools so americans can learn how to interpret the information that is being reported.
people really need to understand the reasons why we have the media. the true meaning of freedom is very deeply rooted in the idea that we need to the spread ideas. we reach so much more when expressing and mixing them. media today has just become a mess of big business. why do i want to listen to the ideologies of someone who is spreading knowledge for money? i do not feel the charge of intelligence in that. passionate knowledge is spread for a reason. the difference is clearly seen when it is just a job.
