Greenwood Performing Arts welcomes new board members

Greenwood Performing Arts (GPA) has added five new members to its Board of Directors, increasing to 15 the number of directors responsible for governance of the organization, which will begin its 69th season next fall.
New members joining the board are: Ericka Adams; Stacy Boyce; Bettie Horne; Mark Meyers and Kay Self. Directors are elected for three-year terms and are eligible to serve a second three years.
Current board members are: Dave Lorenzatti, whose term as president ends June 30; Sandra McMullen, president-elect; George Brockenbrough, interim treasurer; Joyce Nickles, Elizabeth Garrison-Rasor; Lisa Sanders; Jon Scott; Jean Stark; Dr. Ted Vaughn; and Sandie Wanto.
Wanto and Vaughn will rotate off the board at the end of June. Each has served two terms plus an additional year.
Executive Director Cecily Ferguson said GPA enjoyed an outstanding season in 2014-15. “In fact,” she added,” it was the most financially successful season in our recent history.” She said the artists who performed during the just-concluded season: Rhonda Vincent and the Rage; Sandi Patty; Nat Chandler; and Earl Klugh drew large audiences from the Greenwood area and beyond, including many patrons from out of state. “We also had the support of sponsors, advertisers and donors whose generosity helped underwrite the cost of each production,” she added.
GPA’s Outreach Program, directed by Jackie Counts, staged four performances that drew large, enthusiastic audiences of school children from the Lakelands region.
Ferguson said GPA will present a special Festival of Flowers concert on Thursday, June 4, at Greenwood Community Theatre, featuring 2015 Grammy Award winner Mike Farris. Farris’ appearance is sponsored by First Citizens Bank.
Tickets for the concert are $20 each and are on sale at the Greenwood Performing Arts office at the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, and at Greenwood Community Theatre. For more information, contact GPA at 227-8744.
