Greenwood High Open House – Greenwood High School students and their parents are invite to our 2nd semester Open House and Family Night on Monday, January 22 at 6 PM. Our Wellness Team has prepared health information and healthy snacks for all attending, because healthy students learn better.
Amy Stabler, Director of Child Nutrition with Greenwood District 50 will be present representing Greenwood District 50’s Nutrition program. She will prepare some easy to make, healthy snack samples that include Sun Butter. Free Sun Butter coupons will also be available.
Also present will be Sharon Lone, representing SNAP-ED, an outreach of Clemson University. Clemson University has been commissioned with the responsibility of providing nutrition education to families and individuals throughout upstate South Carolina. One avenue to accomplish this goal is through the SNAP-ED program in our schools. SNAP-ED is an evidence-based program that helps people lead healthier lives. At our Family Night, Ms Lone will focus on proper hydration, and offer classes on “ Cooking Matters, My Plate”. Anyone interested in 4H clubs should also see Ms Lone.
We will also have resources available from the American Diabetes Association concerning nutrition and physical activity. The main goal of the ADA,
to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes, coincides with the vision of our Wellness Teams. The ADA strategies are useful tools to encourage healthy lifestyles.
Greenwood District 50 is striving to better instill a culture of wellness throughout our schools and in Greenwood. Our Wellness Teams were developed as part of a Wellness Grant provided by MUSC Boeing whose goal is also to instill a culture of wellness and prevent obesity so that all children can be healthy, succeed in school and thrive in life.
