Entech hosts FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Scrimmage
January 20 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pmFree
Press Release – Robotics Scrimmage, Greenville, SC – January 20, 2018
FIRST®, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is a global nonprofit organization with the mission to inspire the next generation of technology leaders. FIRST Tech Challenge, designed for students from 7th – 12th grades, kicked off its season with the annual game back in September. Since then, teams across the state have been going through the process of designing and building robots to compete in the SC FIRST Tech Challenge Championship at Gaffney High School on February 3, 2018. This Saturday, January 20th, is a good opportunity to see the progress that some South Carolina teams have made toward this year’s game challenge called Relic Recovery. Entech, who sponsors two Greenville teams – the Greenvillians and Red Legion – is hosting a scrimmage at The Core, 8649 Augusta Road (Highway 25), Pelzer, SC 29669 from 10:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
FIRST Tech Challenge teams can program their robots with and Android based control system using Java, the same programming language high school students are learning and the basis for their AP programing coursework. Some teams use 3-D modeling software to design their robots virtually before they build them. Others use prototyping or trial and error to determine what works best. In the end, the teams must work together in alliances to score the most points
Come out and see what the next generation of STEM leaders are doing. The FIRST Tech Challenge program is growing in South Carolina; there are almost 40% more teams than last season and the number continues to grow. If you like robots or teens who are excited about what they are doing, please stop in to see the creativity and ask questions.
